West Oakland’s dining scene continues to evolve, with Kowbird closing in January and Hyphy Burger soft opening last week. While the neighborhood lost Matt Horn’s fried chicken spot Kowbird after a two-year run, it gained a new casual eatery serving up smashburgers, fries, and shakes.
Kowbird’s closure honestly isn’t shocking, given how slow they’ve been every time I stopped by. But hopefully something more exciting will open there, especially with the food hall opening across the street next month. Add Hyphy Burger to the mix, and West Oakland’s dining scene keeps getting more interesting.
